As we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month and Military Appreciation Month throughout May, the Valor Associate Resource Group (ARG) hosted a dynamic virtual discussion about veteran mental health with Warfare to Welfare. The Valor ARG leadership and special guests Morgan Luttrell, former Navy Seal Lieutenant and Courtney Janes, Executive Director of Infinite Hero Foundation provided an open forum to discuss the invisible wounds of war our veterans face following their service, such as depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
The outcomes of the discussion include an overall better awareness of issues veterans are facing, education on breaking through barriers, celebrating successes, encouraging advocacy and exploring ways we can offer support. Advocacy for care options is vital to ensure veterans and their families are connected to care resources for physical rehabilitation, brain health and suicide prevention. Based on our survey results, the event was rated 4.6/5 stars. Most importantly, 100% of the participants shared they would like to continue to have conversations about mental well-being.
Here are several comments about the Warfare to Welfare discussion:
“So Thankful to RNDC and Valor Leadership for this great call today!! Great Job!!!”
“Great resources shared on the call and really liked the examples of PTSD given from an enlisted perspective.”
“I was pleased to see My Company that I have worked for 34 years take an active role on the Development and Daily Issues of their Veteran Employees. RNDC is the Greatest!”
“I’ve read, and believe, that experiences you have in your life color how you see things, it’s your lens. The truths shared during this event were unfiltered, honest, and filled with compassion! It was a great honor to attend the Valor event.”
