Make Time for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month throughout the month of May. RNDC recognizes and supports the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage communities and welcomes the opportunity to create greater cultural awareness and continue building inclusive excellence.

May was chosen as AAPI Heritage Month to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese people to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869. Many of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

The AAPI community is extremely diverse with countries of origin that include but are not limited to China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Samoa; and in South Asia, countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Please share your photos and stories about what you’re doing for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month with us on social media. Find RNDC on our social media pages here (from myRNDC, myResources, scroll down midway on left side menu, select the page of choice).
